I'm not disagreeing. But it's in an area with a very real Volvo tax, and is a rare color/transmission. I won't be surprised if it sells for around that

I seem to have a much higher tolerance for that than most around here. The Miata is a salvage title, and has been issue-free

I don’t get all the fear around salvage titles. I’ve had multiple salvage title cars/bikes and have never had a problem. I had a salvage motorcycle that was totaled because it fell over in a parking lot and cracked the fairings and dented the tank. I’ve also seen flood damage cars with water still in them sell at auction with clean titles because they weren’t reported. Title status doesn’t mean much.

Things that would concern me:
How much would it hurt resale?
Can I just drive it as salvage or do I have to jump through hoops (and possibly spend a lot of money) to get it converted to a rebuilt title in order to register it?
Can I insure it at a level I’d like?

Me neither. I've heard that insuring salvage title cars can be an issue, but I've never had a problem with it personally.

I could see those being issues for some consumers.
But when I generally think of salvage title vehicles I think of cars like the Volvo above that are cheap enough that resale is a non issue or just keeping it until its unusable.
Titling is definitely a problem but can vary by state, county, or city. But from personal experience, rural areas (which Is where I prefer to be) don’t care at all.
Going back to point one where everything I buy is cheap and only gets liablity. I could see that being a problem with newer or higher end vehic es however.

Rented a white wagon back in ‘97 - those things are useful for days, and it’s all pretty well screwe d together. I’d want more airbags, but the modern version is what I’d buy if I needed a car.

If you'd seen some of the "repairs" I have, you'd understand. Are all salvage cars bad? No. But the percentage is high enough that I don't bother. On the flip side, not all clean title cars are good either, but this is what pre purchase inspections are for.
